A spectactular, unique event – part of the Viessmann FIS World Cup Cross-Country
The third edition of Tour de Ski will take place from 27th of December 2008 until 4th of January 2009.
What is the FIS Tour de Ski 2008/2009?
The Fiemme valley (853-1’800m above the sea level) stretches for 35 kilometers in the North-East of the Trentino province, only 42 km from the city of Bozen, along the Avisio river. Nestling in its heart are fifteen typical villages, each with unique characteristics. The Lagorai mountain chain, the Pale di San Martino and the Latemar group have attracted tourists from every part of the world for almost two centuries.
The Paneveggio and Mount Corno Natural Parks enrich the magnificent landscape of this valley, which is covered by over 20’000 hectares of fir trees and larches. The woodlands are crossed by over 200 kilometers of forest trails that are ideal for mountain biking in the summer. And do not forget to look out for the resounding red spruces, whose wood Stradivarius used for his world-famous violins.
The Fiemme valley also includes 150 km of Cross-Country Skiing tracks, 140 km of Alpine Skiing slopes, accommodation for 35’000 visitors, and a complete range of services for tourists. On top of that: there are numerous sports events ? in particular the Marcialonga, cultural and musical events, wine and gastronomy itineraries, craftsmanship, museums, and a rich historic and architectonic heritage of both religious and lay character. Val di Fiemme hosted the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 1991 and 2003, and will apply again for the Championships in 2013.
